You have to remember that liberals became radicalized in 2000 when voters rejected "Bill Clinton’s Third Term."
In 2004, the "collusion" excuse was called "swiftboating" to explain how John Kerry lost a sure thing.
In 2008, the Obama regime that took over was rabidly anti-American, and sought to dismantle all pillars of American law and order, starting with Black Panther voter intimidation in Philadelphia, to make sure that 2000 and 2004 never happened again. 2012 unleashed a scorched-Earth policy of no looking back to retaliate for the 2010 wave election that took the House away from Obama.
They counted on Hillary Clinton winning to keep their treason hidden from the public, but failed. Now that they are "all in," they are like cornered animals with nothing left to lose.

then there’s going to be a federal grand jury to investigate the Obama administration’s senior Department of Justice officials and the senior members of the FBI.
Anybody with any sense has to see where this ends up.
We either have a rogue cabinet, in it's entirety (of which Justice is the second to be outed after Treasury/IRS), that is acting unconstitutionally without the knowledge of the President -- making Obama an incompetent stooge or useful idiot for others; or we have a top-down directive, straight from the Oval Office, to use the tools of government to crush the opposition and secure power for generations.
Let's not kid ourselves, the Obama Spying Scandal is the biggest scandal in the history of the USA. The weaponizing of the IC, FBI, Justice Department came from Obama. I suspect Clapper and Brennan are major players working with Obama. They had the HAMMER computer system. It's my guess it started on day one of his administration.
Do you think that America is ready to accept a finding like this, if it means draining the swamp in one fell swoop? Do you think a majority in Congress would be willing to let this flow to its natural conclusions, if it means that some will get to stay viable for the future?
And finally, do you think -- given Obama's childhood -- that we might actually see a former President live the rest of his life in exile in a non-extradition country like Indonesia, Bahrain, or Kuwait?
This sort of corruption is the result of many decades of cover-ups and looking the other way, all for the “greater good” (of the FBI).
I would add... based on the convenient, but unproven, excuse that the cover-ups were necessary to protect people's confidence in government and avoid riots in "the street" should popular figures be seen as being taken out.
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, so to speak, to justify their own corruption for the greater good of stability in government. However, those on the short-end of that stability have had enough.
Still, the point is that the top could have intervened to stop it, if: 1) the top were in the loop, and 2) the top was appalled by the rogue behavior.
So, to assume that the top did not approve and to still protect the top, one has to assume that the top was duped, was lied to, was incompetent as a manager to not know what direct reports were doing in such visible roles.
Therefore, the only choices to judge Obama are that he either was in the know and supported it, or he was played the fool and sat over a rogue destructive administration.
Neither are legacies that Obama wants.

When someone "who spent part if his youth in a Madrasa and spent his early adulthood with domestic terrorist" takes over the White House, this is what he does as a natural inclination, and he finds others with a similar inclination to fill out his administration.
tell me how the system of checks and balances gets changed so that a domestic counter-intelligence operation can work unchecked against the interest of the American people.
I believe it started in the Clinton administration with three specific events and some ancillary incidents:
Mass firing all 93 US Attorneys in one day and replacing them with Clinton appointees. Previous Presidents fired selected US Attorneys over a period of time.
The "Gorelick Wall." Jamie Gorelick, then the Deputy Attorney General under Janet Reno, established a policy forbidding the sharing of intelligence between the CIA, FBI, and NSA. In hindsight, the belief is that she was protecting Bill Clinton's campaign fundraising abuses, but the unintended consequence is that the intelligence agencies missed the evidence of the 9/11 plot.
TWA 800. Occurring in July 1996 (in the heart of the Clinton reelection campaign), the FBI was actively investigating a missile strike theory. Several days into the investigation the CIA took over investigation, discarded hundreds of eye-witness accounts, and create an implausible "zoom climb" video to explain a center fuel tank explosion.
700 FBI files. Disavowed White House aide Craig Livingstone acquired confidential FBI files on most "players" in Washington, which the Clinton's allegedly used as "leverage" in policy negotiations.
Related attempts to coordinate the mining of raw intelligence, such as "Able Danger," were shut down by Gorelick's wall. There were claims that Able Danger discovered the Mohamed Atta terrorist cell a year before the 9/11 attack, but key government officials changed their stories during the 9/11 Commission study.
"Open" FBI Investigations. Attorney General Janet Reno never closed any FBI investigations. By keeping them open, this allowed her to decline to comment on "ongoing investigations," of which there were many in the Clinton administration. This was an early politicization of the FBI as a tool to protect the incumbent administration.
Late in the Clinton administration, an eavesdropping system named "Echelon" was changed from military/diplomatic espionage by a new FBI system called "Carnivore" to sniff general international TCP/IP communications channels. Not limited to known suspected targets, this system monitored all traffic for specic keywords whether or not an American citizen was involved in the communication.
The Clintons learned by experience that, no matter how egregious the crime or lie, repeated denial is all it takes in Washington to skirt the consequences (Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones excepting, although Clinton's penalties were minor).
Fast forward to 2000 and the Bush-Gore election. Here, we see parallels with the Trump-Clinton election:
In both cases, the Democrat was expected to win, but narrowly lost.
In both cases, the Democrats refused to accept the results and created a national crisis.
In both cases, Democrats in the Senate slow-walked the confirmation of incoming Cabinet nominations.
In both cases, the crimes of the prior administration were expected to be covered up by the incoming administration, but were now open to exposure.
The 2000 election is probably the flash point for when we see the radicalization of the MSM. The Clinton administration held up Presidential transition funds while Gore's challenge worked its way through the Florida courts. The MSM echoed the "selected, not elected" meme despite their own post-election reviews of Florida ballots showing that, no matter how many different ways they counted the votes, Bush still won Florida. The MSM never mentioned that if Gore had only won his or Clinton's home states, Florida would have been moot. The MSM ridiculed anyone who repeated the news that the outgoing Clinton staff trashed the White House when they left. The MSM said that Bush was a "dry drunk." The MSM said that Bush was dumb. The MSM resented that Bush went to bed early, rose early, and vacationed in Crawford, TX.
Eight months into Bush's first term, 9/11 happened. Bush emerged as a popular wartime leader (remember his speech at the rubble with the bullhorn?), and Democrats were now forced to fast-track the confirmations of Bush's remaining Cabinet nominees. When the United States ultimately invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, the MSM grudgingly went along as "embedded journalists," to provide "context" to the "narrative" that would follow. Our intelligence agencies were deeply focused on wartime surveillance and ultimately the hunt for Saddam Hussein, and likely didn't have the bandwidth to focus on internal domestic spying on political opponents yet (Watergate still resonated).
Two interesting incidents resulted from the Iraq War:
Blaming the intelligence agencies for not finding WMD in Iraq, saying that they misinterpreted the data. Democrats alleged that Bush ordered the falsification of intelligence in order to manipulate Democrats into voting for the war effort (Ted Kennedy: "Week after week after week he told lie after lie after lie..."). The "intelligence community," while existing as a formal body since 1981, was now coined as an opposition force.
The outing of Valeria Plame as a CIA agent. Although Plame was known in Washington DC as a CIA analyst, Democrats ginned up a huge scandal to attack the Bush administration, but ended up only jailing Vice-President Dick Cheney's Chief-of-Staff Scooter Libby, despite knowing that Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage was the leaker. This was also said to turn the "intelligence community" against Republicans.
Fast forward to the Bush-Kerry election of 2004. The MSM, in the form of Dan Rather, used forged military documents to accuse President Bush of avoiding deployment to Vietnam. The MSM mocked former John Kerry Swift-Boat crew members who spoke against Kerry's character as an officer in Vietnam. The MSM coined the word "swift-boating" to mean attacking a Democrat with false accusations. Note that Bush was not "swift-boated by Rather, but instead, the MSM claimed that the supporting documents were "fake but accurate." The MSM showed their willingness to take the side of Democrats to cover up anything harmful to their side.
Fast forward to the 2008 election between McCain-Obama. The MSM imputes all sorts of optimism onto Barack Obama, while simultaneously attacking Sarah Palin as an uneducated hick from Alaska. Once Obama takes office, the MSM either downplays, covers up, or supports the following:
The nomination of Eric Holder for Attorney General, who was responsible for the pardoning of tax dodging Marc Rich on Bill Clinton's last day in office.
The nomination of Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State. The mindset of the purloining of FBI documents is now back in the White House.
Eric Holder's involvement in "Fast and Furious," the running of automated weapons by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearm (BATF) to drug cartels in Mexico, to leverage the resulting carnage to drive gun control in the United States. The BATF becomes politicized.
The Obama Stimulus of 2009, that was supposed to be for "shovel-ready" jobs, but instead was a transfer of wealth to Obama donors. The Treasury becomes politicized.
Solar panel company Solyndra receives a $500 million loan from the Department of Energy, bypassing normal approval processes. Within two years, Solyndra declares bankruptcy. Energy becomes politicized.
The Pigford Scandal, which abused a Department of Agriculture settlement for unfair practices towards 22 African-American farmers, and turned it into a wealth-transfer scheme for many Democrat minority constituencies. Agriculture becomes politicized.
The Space Shuttle program is ended, and NASA is repurposed to focus on climate change and Muslim outreach. NASA is accused of manipulating NOAA weather data to support global warming conclusions. NASA and NOAA become politicized.
ObamaCare is passed by Democrat-only votes in Congress to nationalize the American health care/insurance system. We learn later from ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber that the case for ObamaCare was based on lies in order to get support from "the stupidity of the American people." Health and Human Services becomes politicized.
Using the IRS to deny tax-exempt status to conservative political action groups in advance of the 2012 election. This was in reaction to sweeping Democrat "wave" losses in the 2010 mid-term election. The IRS becomes politicized.
Hillary Clinton and her involvement with the Benghazi embassy attack and aftermath, which resulted in the first killing of an ambassador in 31 years. Lying about the lack of security in Libya and the nature of the attackers, State and Defense become politicized to protect Obama's 2012 reelection.
The Department of Justice admits to spying on journalists. The Associated Press reports that its reporters' cell phones, office phones, and home phones were surveilled. Fox News reported that James Rosen's phones were tapped, as well as the phones of his parents. CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson claims that her computers were infected with spyware. Justice becomes politicized.
Hillary Clinton's secret server. Clinton uses an unsecured personal server to conduct State Department business using an alias identity in order to bypass federal government record keeping. It is alleged that Clinton is running a "pay to play" operation where "donations" to the Clinton Foundation result in favorable treatment by State. When this is publicly discovered, the FBI covers up the evidence and issues a statement declaring no charges. The FBI becomes politicized.
Systematic NSA spying on Americans, as revealed by Eric Snowden. The NSA claims that the data is captured and stored, but not seen or acted upon until there is a court order or warrant. It will be years later before we learn about "unasking" abuses. The NSA becomes politicized.
There is more, but you can see how the Obama administration slowly, systematically, politicized each federal department to serve liberal Democrat interests. The counter-intelligence agencies became normalized to work for the attainment of the liberal agenda above all else. The extent of the abuses was not known outside the halls of the various departments, and it was expected to remain unspoken after Hillary Clinton took over. The MSM was not interested in harming fellow liberals, and either looked the other way or actively participated in coordinating the cover-up (remember JournoList?).
These agencies are now being weaponized against Donald Trump in a last-ditch effort at self-survival.

February 7, 2018: New FBI Texts Reveal Obama Asked for Updates on Clinton Investigation After Guaranteeing He’s Staying Out of Hillary Email Server Probe>

The date of the text was before the election, so there shouldn't have been a Russia collusion investigation yet; that was concocted only after Trump won the election two months later.
If I were to guess, I'd think Obama wanted an update on the Trump campaign surveillance.
I don't think it was a collusion investigation at the time, I think it was a planned spying on the operations of the Trump campaign via purposeful unmasking of anticipated incidental surveillance of known Russians.
Obama only called it collusion after Trump won the election in order to manufacture a crime to justify the spying in anticipation of being discovered by the incoming administration.
All the evidence at the time suggests that Putin would have preferred Clinton because she was already giving Russia whatever they want, so investigating Russian collusion to aid Trump would not have made sense.

Comey was willing to lie about the crimes of Hillary Clinton in order to get her elected, and then lie about no crimes committed by Trump in order to get him thrown out.
