The majority of classical scholars believe Muhammad existed as a historical figure.
The earliest Muslim source of information for the life of Muhammad,
the Quran, gives very little personal information and its historicity is debated.
You need to read the Hadiths and Sunnahs which chronicle the life and sayings of Muhammad, these are Talibari, Muslim, Isaq and Bukhari; Hadiths are Mohammed’s word to his followers, the Sunnahs are the history of Muhammad and his motto (sic) was “Kill. Kill. Kill”...
“The majority of classical scholars believe Muhammad existed as a historical figure.”
That may be true, but likely meaningless. What counts is reasoning and evidence. One hopes the consensus will follow.
It should be noted that sometimes the consensus is shaped by historical forces. Evolution, Marxism, global warming, climate change, may each lack merit, but each was rewarded and acquired some level of consensus.
Today, academics who publicly doubt the existence of Muhammad can lose funding or their lives.
Quick story. One hundred German scientists signed a letter saying that Einstein was wrong. Einstein replied: “Why so many? All you needed was one who was right.”
