Regarding the switches: They are the type of switch that requires a lifting action to change their position from ON to CUTOFF. The flight recorder provides the timing that it would take to perform the manual positioning of each switch. We obviously know that both engines were shut down. There isn’t a “glitch” situation in this case. The switch cannot be bumped or positioned by any means but through physical action.

CO = Commanding Officer, aka captain.

The captain (CO) was the one who was suggested might be depressed or have mental health issues.

“The FO was flying the plane at takeoff, the PIC was monitoring.”

That’s news to me.

I was avoiding posted stories until facts were available and never saw that posted.

Now it makes sense why they were focusing on the CO.

“I’ve read similar, but have no idea if what I read was true.”

I handicapped myself avoiding the hyped articles until facts became available. Turns out the FO was flying - c/o the preliminary report, which I never saw posted - making the captain the likely culprit to have toggle the fuel cutoff.

Given what was posted here over the weekend, the fuel cutoff switches MUST be toggled intentionally.

It was murder.

The report implied it seemed intentional, but maybe i’m reading into it.

They are locking switches. You have to pull up on them to toggle them. That can't happen accidentally.

Meanwhile I have to also listened to the mindless dribble about who flipped the switch when no one wants to even touch the possibility that no one did.

Didn’t a domestic off duty pilot freak out on a flight due to mushrooms taken for ptsd or something?

Yeah an Alaska Air pilot that was riding as an employee jump seat passenger in the cockpit jumped up and tried to shut down the engines. (”Shrooms”):

The Blancolirio channel (Juan Browne) has a very detailed description of crew operational responsibilities during that flight. He echoes your sentiment that there was LOTS of speculation along with few facts up to the release of this preliminary report.

To me, his reports on this type of thing are the most credible.

“It’s an informed conclusion that the first officer is the likely culprit since he is charged instrument panel duties while the CO was preoccupied with piloting the aircraft during climb out. “

Reports say the copilot was flying.

One of the two pilots flipped the switch. The other pilot put them back but it was too late. There is no other possibility. Suicide.

So you think that the pilot switched both switches off in a period of one second. When it takes two fingers to pull out the lever and switch it down. Then move on to the next one. I might be barely possible, but not likely. And anyone who has any electronics repair experience knows how easily a glitch can occur for any number of reasons. There are intelligent questions to ask. And they are not being asked by most.

If the switches were turned off then would the pilot get a message about it on a digital screen? So what was the pilot responding to when he asked about the cutoff switches? Some pilots could answer that question. And Boeing certainly could. So why is it not being answered?

How about timing in the computer. If both switches went off at the exact same time then would they be reported as having gone off at the exact same time. Or would there be a one second delay in reporting both were off?

Intermittent harness connection, Computer hardware or software issue. It is a long list.

I also suspect that we are not getting a full accounting of the voice recorder. Would two pilots about to die not say anything at all in the final moments? Previous incidents suggest that they would.

A cold solder joint could have caused this among other things.

You have to stop looking at the movement of the switches as being the only explanation here.

If a light suddenly goes off in your home then is the only explanation that someone shut off the light switch? I think not. Not to mention intermittent problems cause by vibration and other issues.

Here a couple of videos from people who are at least thinking about it.

https://aaib.gov.in/What's%20New%20Assets/Preliminary%20Report%20VT-ANB.pdf

The PDF says that the fuel switches both were switched off with a 1s gap between them. Ten seconds went by before the Engine 1 switch was turned back on, and another four seconds passed before the Engine 2 switch was moved to the on position. During the ten seconds the fuel was cut, the CVR recorded one of the pilots asking the other why he cut the fuel, and the response was a denial.
