We DO know that the Jews will be fleeing at the Abomination of Desolation (Matthew 24:15-22) in the middle of the 7 years - since there’s no time to go from their roof into their house (in Judea) then I don’t know how they could drag weapons to Petra.

This makes me believe that it must start at least 3.5 years before the 7-year Tribulation. But time will tell.

Yes they will. It appears to me, this refers to the Jews in Israel. What about the Christians in the rest of the world? It would be rather difficult for believers in southern Chile, for instance, to follow these instructions.
