If I wanted to go to a gambling resort, I’d drive an hour or two to Winstar or Choctaw. Most major cities are now within an hour or two of a casino; Atlanta may be the exception. Harrah’s Cherokee is the closest I can think of to Atlanta.
If you walk into a Starbucks or ANY specialty coffee house today and order two large whatevers, plus two croissant like things, and pay your tip... how much do you think it is?
At least $30.
Add in the “I’m in a billion dollar resort hotel” fee in Vegas and yep, $40.
I can’t afford it. If you can’t, don’t go.
It makes me furious that the Las Vegas airport, which was named after the Cold War hero Sen. Pat McCarran (D-Nev.) was renamed for our friend Harry Reid.
When I had to go to Vegas to work, I’d stay at the Hampton Inn - no casino and free parking and breakfast.
Does the old days come with names like Joey Two-toes or Vinny Bagadonuts?
Gambling is no longer the main draw in Vegas. People are there for the experience.
More seriously, there are now places within a hour drive where I can lose at blackjack. I don't need to go to Vegas.
Vegas went downhill when they threw the Mob out of town.
I was there from January to March, to visit my son, who is an Air Force officer, in Vegas. The price to see a Vegas Golden Knights hockey game, was ridiculous. Then I went to California, where a pizza cost $50. That was ridiculous too.
Neal Patrick Harris advertises online gambling so you don’t have to go to Las Vegas.
How can anyone ask for a more prestigious and respected endorsement than that?
Certainly not Harold or Kumar.
I went to two of them a few months back. They were not cheap at $50 a person. I will certainly admit, the food was very good.
If you want cheap buffets, casinos are definitely no longer the place to go. Last year when I went I refused to book one of the many hotels that is charging to have a mini-fridge in your room
Indian Casinos have put a huge dent in the allure of LV.
That is unless you go to enjoy the oppresive heat of the Mojave desert.
Blackjack table payed 3:2 for a blackjack, dealer stayed on all 17's, and cocktail waitresses offered free drinks(yes watered down), I always got a beer and tipped a buck.
Also if you stayed at a table long enough the pit boss would give you a free buffet.
Those days are gone.
Yes, I used to go to Vegas quite often, or just stop by when driving nearby.
The buffets were amazingly cheap and amazingly rich!
Even the shows used to be priced reasonably.
Great deals, if you skipped the gambling.
But, that was then!
I do not go there, ever, now!
When I worked in Syracuse, we used to go to Turning Stone casino, and you could still get free drinks there while gambling.
The experts blame Trump. Bah. What experts? Ok, I could see the Canadians staying home because they’re Communists and hate Trump. But that goes both ways. I won’t vacation in Canada until they stop being a Communist country. And if I can’t go there, that increases my chances of going to Las Vegas.
The closing monologue of “Casino” said it best:
“The town will never be the same.....”
