One year after coming millimeters from a very different outcome, Trump, according to friends and aides, is still the same Trump. But they see signs, beyond being on higher alert on stage, that his brush with death did change him in some ways…
Roger Stone, a longtime friend and informal adviser, noted that Trump has had other brushes with death, including a last-minute decision not to board a helicopter to Atlantic City that crashed in 1989 and another near-assassination two months after Butler when U.S. Secret Service agents spotted a man pointing a rifle through the fence near where Trump was golfing.
Stone said he’s found the president “to be more serene and more determined after the attempt on his life” in Butler.
“He told me directly that he believed he was spared by God for the purpose of restoring the nation to greatness, and that he believes deeply that he is protected now by the Lord,” he said.
Ralph Reed, chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, agreed.
“I think for people who know the president, it is commonly believed that it changed him. I mean, how could it not? Imagine if you were who he was and if you don’t turn your head at that instant,” he said. “He knew he was lucky to be alive.”
Given how close Trump came to a very different outcome, Reed said, “it’s hard not to feel on some level that the hand of providence protected him for some greater purpose. And there are people that I’ve talked to who said they were confident that he would win for that reason. That there must have been a reason.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I agree he was changed then, 100%, now I am not so sure.
This is not a thread for stuff like that. President Trump was saved by GOD, because GOD is using him to renew America.
May God continue to bless and protect Donald Trump and his family. I will continue to say with the prophet Isaiah: “Whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall...No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.”
I truly believe God saved Trump in Butler so he could save the country.
“I truly believe God saved Trump in Butler so he could save the country.”
No doubt in my mind.
That just means you have come to disagree with his policies.
If you want to understand things, the passage of the big beautiful bill this month called off the recession later this year and gave rise to the golden cross in the stock market.
That means the economy will be booming next year at levels never seen before in recent memory. What’s more the federal deficit will have shrunk to nearly zero. It will be gone by 2027—but maybe sooner.
Best pres since George Washington
But this week has been disastrous and then some
The scales are off the eyes of his base and strongest media supporters
It sucks
But he may have had no choice literally
Like they say president ain’t king
You seem to be contradicting yourself.
My sister-in-law who lives in San Antonio, has a friend who drives charter busses. She writes:
“A friend of mine drives charter busses and was part of the Trump motorcade yesterday. She was very moved by how shaken Trump was by what he saw.”
I’d rather have steady than a boom or the roller coaster we ride. Steady is probably not possible though since we have never seen it for longer than a very few years at a time and never without conflict.
I would like for you to be correct but I am skeptical. Tariffs are just another tax if they remain in force and are not just negotiating leverage. The only question about the tax of tariffs is who pays what part of them.
Booms never come without inflation and waste.
Tariffs are just another tax if they remain in force and are not just negotiating leverage. The only question about the tax of tariffs is who pays what part of them.
The other one you didn’t mention that tariffs would cause higher prices.
Agree that talking point you used is all over the place. And the one you didn’t use is all over the place. They’re easy enough to pick up and repeat.
The trouble is that neither are true. Prices are not rising. They’re falling. Tariffs are bringing in a lot of money to the federal treasury. So much so that for the first time there was a federal suplus in June. That’s unheard of.
Give it time. It is an additional cost And every additional cost will be paid for by someone And eventually that means the consumer. Anyone can dream that will not be true but it is just a dream
