Poland was a newly reborn nation after WWI. Germany was the wealthier, more developed nation. It stands to reason that Germany's Jews were wealthier than Poland's Jews. That does not mean that all of Poland's Jews were poor. In fact, Polish Jews attended Poland's universities at a rate exceeding their percentage of the population. Poland incorporated Habsburg Galicia, which had been one of the poorest regions in Europe before WWI. There were poor Jews there, and in the former Russian parts, but Poland's cities certainly had far wealthier Jews than that.
