Yep. I am in what they call “Central NY” and the big employers are Big Retail, Big Medical and local government. Almost everyone is on some sort of government “resource.” Recipe for disaster. Since March, I can’t find one decent working person that pays their bills on time for a vacancy I have (3 bdrm apartment).
It’s all baby mama/baby daddy drama and deadbeats.

I live not too far from Stueben county. I consider NY State to be an analogue of the former East Germany. One party rule, imposed from place and ideology (NY City/Albany) far away, lack of jobs, lots of government dependency, highly political education, white / christian culture is suppressed and degraded, so there's a lot of addiction, a lot of broken families, young people leave to go West - and lots of snow.

Does “big medical” include big meth? For a while Cortland was having meth lab bust after meth lab bust, and the one in Homer that blew up a building. Is that still going on?
