Fondly membering campaign ads in 1966 when incumbent California Governor Pat Brown was challenged by (actor) Ronald Reagan. “Pat Brown is not an acting governor.” That didn’t work either. I don’t remember whether it was an ad or just commentary when someone responded, “Why not an actor? We already have a clown for a governor.”

Oh, these were the days when faculty and students were rather evenly divided among Pubbies and Dems and we could actually discuss this rationally in a 9th grade class.
