Some people get a thrill out of bullying something weaker than themselves, or going out of their way to destroy something of beauty or a precious quality.

Think of the idle idiots who will see a line of sapling trees freshly planted in a downtown area, for the purpose of making that public area a nicer place to be. Some will purposely bend the sapling back, until it snaps off, just because they can. Not new behavior at all.

Agreed. Anyone who laughs at a small, helpless animal being torn to shreds by two large pit bulls will do the same when people are attacked - and we have plenty of video evidence of that.

My cats keep mice and rats out of the house and out of my fruit trees and are a valuable asset, along with purring, curling up on laps and providing stress relief to humans - I live in coyote country, they’ll jump 9-foot fences to get at cats and dogs and plenty have been killed in my neighborhood.

I keep my animals in at night.
