Syria is being given a great opportunity and could be a turning point in the mideast if they pursue a economic relationship to the west. It could go bad but president Trump is eliminating lots of other choices. No iran, Russia or China to play off of

The Syrian leader is going to have to handle his "thugs" on his team. They're like a bunch of pit bulls. He will have to show that he's the "alpha". If they're too aggressive and out of control, they'll scare off western support and eventually they'll get sanctioned again.

The trouble with this logic is that Al-Sharaa is not just surrounded by thugs, but as a former Al Quaeda commander himself, he is a thug.

His current polite and civilized act is just that - an act. Once he gets the money and arms that he wants from the US, he and his minions will be back to chopping the heads off of non-Muslims and for that matter fellow Muslims of different sects. It amazes me that people are unable to see through the charade, because we've seen it many times before.
