When Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City, many Democrats were less than thrilled. Mamdani’s views were too radioactive. The last thing Democratic leadership wanted was to be seen defending someone so far outside the mainstream.
Trump saw an opening and took it. He didn’t just call out the Democrats—he set a trap, daring them to take a stand on Mamdani. Would they denounce extremism? The answer came swift and it was exactly what Trump wanted.
By making Mamdani the cause célèbre of the Democratic Party Trump ensured that every vulnerable Democrat in 2026 will have to answer for their party’s refusal to stand up to extremism. It was a strategic masterstroke.

One way to bring more attention is to have JD Vance challenge him to a debate on domestic policy. The guy would have no choice but to accept. Put maximum pressure on him to defend his views that exposes them all. Do CNN viewers really see what a phony he is?
As for JD-his big work is behind him now that the BIG Beautiful Bill has passed. He’s got the time and I’ll say it again-debate every wannabe POTUS and up-and-comer. Trump is doing just that by calling out Mamdani. Think Reagan debating RFK in ‘66.
No, Sliwa doesn’t have a chance. I like him, and he did great work founding the Guardian Angels, but his New York was of the ‘70s and ‘80s. He is a New York personality, but not electable as Mayor, regardless of party.

Unfortunately, the voters have very short memories, and 2026 midterm is too far away. Dems are going to have difficulty for sure IF Mamdani actually wins in NY, but I see Eric Adams staying put in his office and this move to full-blown socialism (instead of their current somewhat hidden socialism) will be blunted in the minds of the left-leaning voters.
It’s not the voters. It’s the vote counters. If they don’t want Mandani, there will be no Mandani.
