Miami pharmacist who sexually abused girls in Colombia is off to prison, feds say

"When Correa spoke to investigators, he told them he had traveled to Colombia about 45 times to “have sex with minors,” records show.

In a letter to the judge, Correa said he was taking accountability for his actions — and stated that he “had a unhealthy yet treatable sex drive.”

According to court documents, law enforcement officers stopped Stefan Andres Correa, 42, on the jet bridge at Miami International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Bogota, Colombia. During an outbound border search, officers discovered nine cellular phones in Correa’s possession. A search of the cellular phones uncovered over 100 videos of Correa having sex with over 50 minors. The minors were between 11 and 17 years of age. A search of one of the cell phones also revealed a text message exchange with a sex trafficker in Colombia, who Correa agreed to pay $300,000 Colombian pesos (the equivalent of $75 U.S. dollars) to arrange for commercial sex with children that were 10 to 12 years old.

Apparently, the Age of Consent in Colombia is 14... the article says they were 11-17... how can he be punished for doing something that is legal where he did it?

Using that logic, folks who travel to weed states cannot smoke it there, or else they can be arrested when they get home? How does that make sense?

(Yes, obviously the 11-13 and younger are bad enough to get some harsh punishments, I'm just exploring the legal logic of the 14-17yo subset.)
