I didn't hear his 'amnesty' comments... I was in the ER at the hospital for the Fourth... sigh
Knowing Trump's passion for mass deportation, I think I would have to consider the context of those comments. Also, as I have pointed out many times in the last 9 years, Trump is a 'populist', not a 'conservative'. I know he has made noise about a seasonal "worker's" visa for farm workers. That issue has consistently thwarted GOP efforts to oppose illegal border crossings... one major GOP contributor has been the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who advocates for cheap foreign labor - unhappily.
I posted his comments, with a link for you. They are a furtherance of what he has said a couple of times already. “Mass deportations” have been anything but. More like the “lock her up” slogan to get elected.
He’s not talking about seasonal workers visas, he’s talking about amnesty for those already here illegally. He earlier tried the touchback amnesty that McCain, Bush and others tried 20 years ago. But is now settling on simply declaring illegals legal.
If you’ve been listening to him, he has only talked about the thug illegals. He has absolutely no concern or understanding about what it does for AMERICAN FARM WORKERS to have to compete with illegally paid and illegally overworked ILLEGAL WORKERS. The ONLY way to end this and help to restore rural America is to make ALL ILLEGAL FARM WORKERS go home. Then all farms will be on a level playing field going back to how it was when we had American workers for most sectors. (E.g., dairy workers 30, 40, or 50 years ago.) Those out picking crops in hot fields in CA would have been elevated to at most driving tractors with picking machines if we hadn’t undermined that particular labor market decades and decades ago. And you are right, the CoC is among many vial Americans pushing for cheapening American labor via illegal and low-cost foreign imports.
