Those 1975 - 1976 Reds teams rank with any of the greatest of all-time. Bench, Morgan, and Tony Perez are in the HoF as is Sparky as manager. And of course Pete Rose….
For a good book on the ‘75 team, read Joe Posnanski’s THE MACHINE. Sparky Anderson was a true original BTW.

My Meta fan father thought that the Reds lost the heart of the team when they replaced Perez with Driessen, who was fine on paper. As a Dodger fan, I was PEEVED when SI stated in an ad to sell subscriptions “Watch the Reds with Tom Terrific pass the Dodgers”. (referring to the Mets-Reds trade). It does nothing. The Reds were 10 back … they stayed 10 back. Even though the Reds took the Mets to the cleaners, the soide continued. The Reds WERE ripped off in thestrike shortned season, as they had the best w-l record in the mlb, but didn’t make the playoffs due to the made up team n the middle of the year split season.

And of course Pete Rose…. The ultimate hot dog…Charlie hustle… I’m better than anybody Pete Rose. Never liked the jerk and neither did most of the guys who played with him.
Thinking back on it, he’s problay the reason I didn’t like the Reds. ;~))
