Deer flies- horse flies (Larger, worse bite), Black Flies, No-See-Ums, mosquitos, ticks, etc- Nature is brutal- We get the black flies so thick it’s a chore not to inhale them-
I used to work outside, and used to smoke, to keep them out of my face all the time- We poured cement for a large building once, and for some reason, the black flies swarmed to the cement and was just brutal- totally relentless- was gad to get the first floor on so we were above the cement where the flies were about 1/2 the amount- Still annoying, but better-
The escapee couldn’t risk a fire either- which woulda helped keep fleis away-
I did prison ministry too for awhile- Takes a special person to deal with folks like inmates who lie for a living- I wasn’t the kind of person to deal with them so well- I just couldn’t stand how they tried to constantly con us- I didn’t have a very good attitude at the time about it-
- they had a fella escape with help from a guard, and he had to endure brutal conditions too- bet he was glad to get back to prison lol
Yeah, prison ministry isn’t for everyone.
During DOC orientation/training it was heavily impressed upon the group to be advised that prisons are full of master manipulators.
To that end our ministry decided the best thing to do if an inmate wanted to discuss why he was there, his pending appeals, or especially if they attempted to gain personal information about us the best thing to do as quickly as possible was to bring the conversation back to Jesus.
Also, giving or receiving any items not authorized by the DOC could be grounds for dismissal.
It starts with a paper clip and then can grow to them asking for funds to be put in their DOC account.
A volunteer in my prison ministry allowed that very thing to happen......that was the end of his service in the Florida DOC.
