Sen. Thune says Senate won’t overrule parliamentarian

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Thursday the Senate would not move to overrule its parliamentarian after she advised that including key provisions in the GOP’s domestic-policy megabill would expose it to a fatal Democratic filibuster.

After the decisions were publicized Thursday, multiple conservative Republicans called on the Senate to sideline Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough. But when asked by POLITICO about overruling her, Thune said, “No, that would not be a good option for getting a bill done.”

The rulings from MacDonough affected several major pieces of the GOP plan, including a provision that would crack down on provider taxes that states used to fund their Medicaid programs as well as measures meant to exclude undocumented residents from public benefits. Republicans are expected to try to rewrite the provisions in hopes of winning MacDonough’s blessing.

“How is it that an unelected swamp bureaucrat, who was appointed by Harry Reid over a decade ago, gets to decide what can and cannot go in President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill?” wrote Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) on X.

“The WOKE Senate Parliamentarian, who was appointed by Harry Reid and advised Al Gore, just STRUCK DOWN a provision BANNING illegals from stealing Medicaid from American citizens,” added Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), also on X. “This is a perfect example of why Americans hate THE SWAMP.”

Why is there even a Senate Parliamentarian? No such office is mentioned in the Constitution.

If a senator has issues with the legality of a bill, how’s about having an aide do some research? Or better yet, go with your gut. That’s why you were elected in the first place.

an unknown civil servant who has never had to garner a single citizen’s vote

can in effect overrule both the Congress and the Executive?

and yet Obamacare was enacted after the appropriation language was written in the Senate, not the House where it is constitutionally required to originate. And with a vote in the House rigged by Pelosi to make sure no elected representatives even had time to read the damned bill anyway
and then signed into law by a constitutionally unqualified “president” with a fake name, fake birth certificate(s), stolen social security number, hidden immigration records, hidden selective service file (if any), etc.

where was this nice parliamentarian then, pray tell? asleep at the wheel, or what? (maybe had a job at the McD’s drive through window, for all I know... so where was whoever held the title parliamentarian.... then??????)

just curious
it seems ...again,...that we have two laws in modern Amerika....one law for the commie/nazi/progressives and another law for all the rest of us
