Ben Rhodes, born November 14, 1977, is an American writer, political commentator, and former Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and Speechwriting under President Barack Obama (2009-2017). A key figure in Obama’s foreign policy, he led secret negotiations to normalize U.S.-Cuba relations and supported the Iran nuclear deal. Rhodes co-authored Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission and wrote the New York Times bestsellers The World As It Is and After the Fall. He co-hosts Pod Save the World, contributes to NBC News and MSNBC, and co-chairs National Security Action.
A New York native, he holds a B.A. from Rice University in English and Political Science and an MFA from New York University in Creative Writing.
