Iran's supreme leader sent his foreign minister to Moscow on Monday to ask President Vladimir Putin for more help from Russia after the biggest U.S. military action against the Islamic Republic since the 1979 revolution over the weekend.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel have publicly speculated about killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and about regime change, a step Russia fears could sink the Middle East into the abyss.
While Putin has condemned the Israeli strikes, he has yet to comment on the U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites though he last week called for calm and offered Moscow's services as a mediator over the nuclear programme.
A senior source told Reuters that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi was due to deliver a letter from Khamenei to Putin, seeking the latter's support.
Iran has not been impressed with Russia's support so far, Iranian sources told Reuters, and the country wants Putin to do more to back it against Israel and the United States. The sources did not elaborate on what assistance Tehran wanted.
The Kremlin said that Putin would receive Araqchi but did not say what would be discussed.

Russia has to be looking at the oil situation and thinking...anything that makes Iran-oil look like a problem....makes Russia-oil look ‘swell’. I’d let the Iranians dig deeper into the pit.
BTTT
Iran had a choice in 1979, they choose poorly.
Payback time, finally.
I don’t think the Russians will do anything beyond threats. Their hands are full in Ukraine. Their military is weak. The only thing they have to offer is nuclear war and they are not stupid enough to do that over Iran.
Iran is on its own. The days of US appeasement giving them pallets of cash are over. The days of massive air strikes are here. There’s not a damn thing they can do about it.
They can give them new SAM batteries.
B2 Bombers, we hardly knew ye.
Say Ukraine.
Heh heh - I’d wager that what Russia does is amp up it’s oil production to make up for Iran’s decline - a Paper Bear does not dare attack a Screaming Eagle with the heart of an Alpha Lion...
Israel is making a huge mistake not targeting airports that can take heavy aircraft like the 747. Allowing China to land their 747s is going to tire them in the azz.
Trump needs to head this off. The best approach by far is the carrot — ending the sanctions. But if that doesn’t
work, he has a stick — going all in on helping Ukraine.
