Interesting development. Some context would be helpful. For people not familiar with this prison. How big? How many prisoners? Max security violent prisoners or political dungeon? are there crates of rifles available?

The prison holds up to 15,000 prisoners. Prison opened in 1972, but after the 79 revolution, people considered enemies of the state (ie: not radical Islamic revolutionaries). And it was like that to..... yesterday.

Opposition outlet Iran International suggested the attack may have been intended to create a breach allowing detainees to escape. The prison is subject to international sanctions by both the US and the European Union, due to its role in systematic human rights violations.
