I think the real news here is that Luxembourg has an airport.

Actually a very famous airport. Icelandic Airlines flew from JFK to Iceland and then to Luxembourg at fares 50-60% less than the common carriers. Luxembourg did not participate with the international agreements that regulated fares, level of service etc. Millions of college students flew into Luxembourg in the 1960s.

Luxembourg is also home to Cargolux. They operate 747 freighters. I don’t know if the 747’s that flew to Iran and then Luxembourg were Cargolux airplanes. If so, those aircraft have a special freighter feature that allows them to carry very long pieces of freight. The nose section hinges upward to allow access to the main deck. They are often used to transport huge pieces of factory equipment.

It is closer to France, Germany, and Belgium than Sea-Tac is to Seattle.
