Donald Trump has approved plans to attack Iran, but has not made a final decision on whether to strike the country, the BBC's US partner CBS reports.
The US president held off on initiating strikes in case Iran agreed to abandon its nuclear programme, a senior intelligence source told CBS. Trump is reportedly considering a US strike on Fordo, an underground uranium enrichment facility in Iran.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday rejected Trump's demand for unconditional surrender, as the US president said his patience had run out.
On Wednesday, Trump said, "I may do it, I may not do it", when asked a question about US involvement in Iran.
Khamenei rebuked Trump in Wednesday's recorded speech, saying that "any US military intervention" would be costly and added: "The Iranian nation will not surrender."
Trump brushed off the rejection, saying "good luck", but again declined to disclose his plans. "I mean, nobody knows what I'm going to do," he said.

Nope.
US not getting involved.
This has been the holding pattern all day today, since before lunch. At least that’s what we are now being told.
The Government might decide we ‘don’t have the need to know’ for now.
“Market says.... Nope. US not getting involved.”
I thought the market went down if a war is expected.
Iran missile attacks really put the blocks to Isreal a little while ago, hit a hospital.
Doesn’t seem like they’re tapping out.
The market goes down, but the war stocks go through the roof.
BBC, haha!
Maybe all this hype about deploying MOP by u.s. is all misdirection. Maybe the IDF already has 4 semi’s on site with 320,000 lbs of super high non-nuclear explosives which I’ll be driven into the first hole made by a smaller bunker buster...then..one by one..each semi is driven into the hole and ka-boom..That would be much cheaper and better than one 30,000 lb MOP. Turn the place into a radioactive toxic site.
Wait til a federal judge enjoins Trump from bombing, then you’ll see the market react.
Like I trust the BBC to accurately rereport what the US media is claiming?
The only way I’d think they migh get it right is by accident.
Actually, it does raise constitutional questions!
The president is not a king* and it’s Congress who declare war
*The left have now stolen this line so I think I should give it a rest
Much better if Seyeret Matkal showed up in person and secured the premises for orderly dismantling at a future time. No need to spread contamination around the area.
> Donald Trump has approved plans to attack Iran… <
I trust Trump, completely. But no way in the world should this be his call. America was not attacked by Iran. And America is not under imminent threat from Iran.
The Constitution makes the president the commander-in-chief. But the war-making power rests with Congress. If Iran is such a threat (and it well might be), Trump should go before Congress and make his case.
And yes, I know Congress is filled with idiots. But an imperial presidency is just as bad, if not worse.
Yes it’s down to Congress and your elected Reps
It was set up that way very clearly even though times have changed and all that
The reason they set it up like that is to engender debate and collective responsibility over War decisions
And for all the grief I give GWB on Iraq he did actually go to Congress for Authorization
I would guess they would be driving the semi’s...systematically dismantling is a great idea. The Israelis can surreptitiously bring it back to Israel and increase their bomb making ability...difficult to carry the mission out unless in total control of IRAN or the regime is kicked out and a new much less hostile regime put in. May take at least a few weeks to accomplish.
Smart idea.
They invaded our soil by taking over our embassy and taking Americans hostage. That is an act of war. They have been involved in the death of Americans through the financing of Hezbollah and production of IEDs. They should have been stomped out back in 1979.
> And for all the grief I give GWB on Iraq he did actually go to Congress for Authorization <
True. But that authorization was less due to the strength of GWB’s argument, and more due to the cowardice of Congress. Congress was scared of taking a stand, and perhaps being wrong. So they transferred their war-making power to W.
We saw the same thing with LBJ and the Golf of Tonkin resolution.
As much as I despise LBJ, I despise W more. W had all of LBJ’s Vietnam mistakes right before him. Yet W repeated them all.
(Sorry for the rant. Insomnia does that to me.)
> They invaded our soil by taking over our embassy and taking Americans hostage. That is an act of war. <
Agreed. However, that was in November of 1979, more than 45 years ago. Even Reagan let it go. He did not go to war over it.
Maybe that incident still relevant. Okay, then. Trump should go before Congress and make his case for attacking Iran. Include that embassy incident. But go before Congress.
