Einstein, given science at the time, was not “wrong”...
He just had a different opinion...

Everybody loves to claim Einstein was “wrong” about something...
He made many statements in the early 1900s that he later changed his mind on when new scientific techniques were developed...
He often recanted based on new info appearing...

Yep. Hence why a lot of this stuff is called theories and theorems. I wonder if his quip at the end was intentional where he mentioned that academia has a great deal of inertia?

There is a lot of confusion on this. Einstein has been wrong about a lot of things. He was wrong about the universe being static. He was wrong about randomness in quantum mechanics. People confuse “Einstein was wrong” with “general relativity is wrong”. Examples like the ones I gave and like this example are examples of the former. It by no means implies that Einstein’s theories, especially relativity, are wrong.
