LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- While the U.S. Department of Homeland Security continues to claim ICE agents are going only after violent undocumented criminals, non-violent migrants are being rounded up and deported just the same in what has become a controversial part of the Trump administration's immigration policy.
So exactly who are the people ICE is arresting in these raids in Southern California? 7 on Your Side Investigates spent the day trying to verify the backgrounds of some of the names ICE has provided.
One person now in ICE custody is 49-year-old Cuong Chanh Phan. The feds say the Vietnamese national's criminal history includes second-degree murder. We confirmed that through both court records and our own archives.
Eyewitness News was there in 1994 when police say Cuong was among nearly a dozen gang members who rushed into a San Marino home during a party and started randomly shooting.
ICE also gave us the name and rap sheet of 44-year-old Armando Ordaz of Mexico. We confirmed again through court records his criminal history does in fact include rape, sexual battery and petty theft.
We also were able to verify that Lionel Sanchez-Laguna of Mexico, who is now in ICE custody, also has an extensive criminal history that includes charges of assault, battery and child abuse.
But ICE has released to us so far just about two dozen names of those with a violent past.
Meanwhile, District 14 Councilmember Ysabel Jurado on Monday went to Ambiance, a garment district warehouse that ICE agents raided on Friday. She said those detained were just hard-working migrants.
"These men aren't criminals, they're garment workers," said the councilmember.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
"These men aren't criminals, they're garment workers," said the councilmember."
Who is this councilmember? For real they are criminals and sounds like Councilmember Ysabel Jurado needs deported as well.
By that twisted logic, John Wayne Gacy wasn't a "serial killer" - he was a clown!
They are border violators here in this country illegally - probably either using a forged S.S. number (a federal offense) or "working under the table" (tax evasion).
If you or I or any other bona fide U.S. citizen were guilty even only of the latter two offenses, I'm sure that this councilmember would not shed a tear.
But for ILLEGALS?! Then the world is coming to an end!
Regards,
non-violent ILLEGAL ALIENS. Fixed it!
1. Are you here?
2. Are you supposed to be here? If the answer to the second is "no", then you are here illegally.

“These men aren’t criminals, they’re garment workers,” said the councilmember.
I think I see the problem.
During the Plandemic, the democRATS wouldn’t use the huuuuge hospital ship. How about parking the huuuuge ship just off the Lost Angeless coast. Load it up with the illegal trespassers, ship them down to the end of Baja, and let them out. Head back up to Lost Angeless, load up again. Anyone who gets caught up in mix who has a legitimate claim can make their way to the border and plead their case.
7 is NOT on your side.
Consider London.
If there were no postwar immigrants and their offspring rents would be less than half.
There is nothing a low-skilled immigrant could contribute that would compensate.
The US government spends about $18,000/person annually.
For a family of four, that’s $72,000/year.
You can’t make that sewing garments.
Biden’s purpose in letting in illegals is to effectively disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans.
The asylum system also needs to be changed. Those claiming and getting asylum or TPS need to be limited to a bare subsistence net income with the excess to be held for up to ten years to bribe them to return home.
But this withholding would be expensive!
The average cost of K-12 schooling is about $15,000/kid/year.
If AI doesn’t calculate the right withholding amount, the asylum recipients might be allowed to use say $200 of their excess funds to pay for human review.
Tijuana’s roads are crowded.
If the illegals couldn’t drive, most would probably return home where they could.
Motor vehicle liability insurers might be required to inform the federal government of the vehicles they insure by license plate number.
Vehicles that drive on federal roads like I-5, I-10, US 101, etc. might be license plate scanned and the vehicles confiscated by bounty hunters who pay the federal government for confiscation rights.
I like how they call themselves Ambiance, a French name.
“Located in Shanghai, China’s commercial and economic hub, our China branch operates and manages overseas production in Asian countries such as China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Bangladesh. Our China office works closely with local vertical, fabric and sewing factories in these countries and is dedicated to providing high-quality goods and reliable delivery.”

I suspect the workers are doing the type of work the character Archie Bunker was portrayed as doing.

First thing to do is to knock the illegals off welfare.
The second thing to do is to make sure they can’t drive.
The third thing to do is to place all the income they don’t need to survive in a personal return home fund so they can be bribed to return home with their own money.
Their return home fund might be randomly raided for federal finances after ten years.
Jose Invader:
We helped ourselves to $6,000 of your money last week as you were not drawing upon it in your homeland or other country.
Social Security Administration
Ok, I’ll go and embezzle from my company and not pay taxes on what I stole. Why should I be arrested and prosecuted? None of the crimes were violent.
See what things lead to when shoplifting less than $950 is not prosecuted?
My fave is the pregnant woman who was arrested at the protest to be deported.
That’s a twofer!
Also, all monies sent out of the country via Western Union and such needs to be taxed at 50%.
Add in educating their kids. California spends almost $23k per year per kid. No wonder we’re broke.
“”These men aren’t criminals, they’re garment workers,” said the Councilmember, Ysabel Jurado.”
This “councilmember” is a lawyer who was arrested for her own criminal acts against ICE - Minnesota has a politician who admitted she’s here illegally (needs to have been removed 3 seconds after the admission - but wasn’t) maybe Councilmember Ysabel Jurado needs to have her creds checked....
