Even if we killed Saddam, the Government of Iraq, and the military command structure (which was fully Baathist) would have maintained control. Instead, Bush insisted every single Baathist be removed. Essentially every senior government official and every General in the military was removed/arrested. That was "de-Baathification".
Korea war...nothing gained, communist regime ruling north Korea.
South Korea was almost completely lost before US troops arrived in number. North Korea was far more industrialized and militarized. A unified Communist Korea would have been a significant regional power, and allied with China would have significantly tilted the balance of power throughout the region.
