Inside the MAGA vs. Hawk battle to sway Trump on bombing Iran
POLITICO ^ | June 10 | By Rachael Bade and Felicia Schwartz

An influential group of GOP hawks has launched a behind-the-scenes lobbying offensive pressing President Donald Trump to not only back off his administration’s quest for a nuclear deal with Iran, but greenlight an attack on Tehran by Israel.

The campaign is raising alarms among Trump and his allies, who have launched a counteroffensive to keep the president’s diplomacy on track.

During a private lunch with the president at the White House last Wednesday, conservative talk show host Mark Levin told Trump that Iran was days away from building a nuclear weapon, an argument Trump’s own intelligence team has told the president is not accurate, according to an intelligence official as well as another Trump ally familiar with the matter. Levin urged Trump to allow the Israeli government to strike Iranian nuclear sites, which Trump has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would torpedo the diplomacy.

Levin has been waging a public war against Trump’s longtime friend and special envoy leading talks, Steve Witkoff, who also attended the meeting. They were joined by GOP megadonor Ike Perlmutter, the onetime Marvel Entertainment executive who is friendly with Witkoff.

Mark Levin strikes again? The GRATE one...

There is no way Trump is going to bomb Iran. He has placed great emphasis on being a man of peace.

Enjoy Mark Levin but he is defiintely not who Trump should be taking foreign policy advice from.

His constitutional expertise would serve so much better in DOJ

Also, Hal Turner reports this morning that during yesterday’s Trump-Netanyahu phonecall Bibi demanded Trump stop negotiating w/ Iran and bomb them instead. Trump said there would be no war w/ Iran. Naturally Bibi is furious. Make of it what you will, and consider the source — Hal Turner claiming to have inside sources. You can read it for yourself on his website.

Is Trump really going to parse the number of days remaining before a nuclear device can be built? If the negotiations are at an impasse, then consequences must ensue... 'man of peace', perhaps, but even more than that, Trump has shown to everyone that there will be consequences for poor choices.

If they loose the argument with 47, then he will cut some deal like 0bama did and Iran will keep on enriching. After all, they have all the cards ...

Trump ran on getting us out of foreign entanglements and perpetual MIC war-making. Thus far he’s done just the opposite.

Instead of the “day-one” plan for Ukraine, he’s adopted the failed Biden agenda of perpetual arms, funds, threats, intel and sanctions... with the same failed results. Gaza is a nightmare, now we’re ready to bomb Iran.

Isn’t inheriting ALL of Isreal’s enemies the bomb? Our kids will inherit them too, and get to pay for it all, and go to war, just like their parents.

I’ve learned to despise the chicken-SH*T war hawks that infest our government, media and FR. They do nothing but cause death and bankruptcy, and lose/fail everywhere they go, everything they touch.

They are the bane of America.

I think we missed our window for straight up military campaign against iran. Maybe if we had targeted iran instead of iraq back in 2003 we could have accomplished something useful. Now, things could go sideways so fast. Let’s say bunker buster strike on iran isn’t met with resignation but instead retaliation. Are you ready for nukes to be used and hopefully not get out of hand. Nukes you say, ridiculous! well imagine if iran retaliates with missiles, maybe hypersonics on dimona, or hypersonics on tel aviv. Do you think Israel wouldn’t go nuclear? and then, the russkies have treaties with iran. Potential for bad things!!

I am not concerned with a military retaliation from Iran. Israel already took out a lot of that capability, so while the bunker busters are falling, any offensive capabilities remaining should also be neutralized. This is not a difficult task — and I would expect that casualties would be kept to a minimum as well.

The war cheerleaders ultimately failed to drag us into senile Joe’s Ukie war and war with Russia, next up Iran……after that China…..Trump will not be in office forever.

Our forever wars must continue.

I can’t stand Levin, but it is correct that Trump should forget about Iran and let Israel do what it must.

Iran has virtually zero war-making capability outside of missiles at this point, but it is also quite impossible to make war against Iran, given its immense size and treacherous terrain. The best approach is airstrikes to eliminate all naval, fighter and missile threats and leave it completely de-balled like Syria.

You can’t be an isolationist and simultaneously demand Israel not do what it sees as wise to do to protect its own interest.

At least be consistent.

Yeah you can, as long as we pay for their military. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Russia and Israel have a diplomatic relationship. Istael has been neutral in the Russia- Ukraine war.

Iran is running out of time. President Trump said today that they are staling. Iran better make the right choice.

I’m not sure subsidizing their purchase of US built military equipment to the tune of 13% of their total defense budget counts as “subsidizing” the point we get a veto.

We pay much greater percentage of other countries’ defense budgets.

Hell, counting the costs of our arms and troops in Europe, we pay 2/3 of their defense budget.

Korea, we pay more than half. Same with Japan.

And all of those counties demand we put our boys’ lives on the line.

I have been very much in favor of trying to find a diplomatic situation. But President Trump’s pachince has limits. My problem with Netenyahi, has been the terrible way he has fought a half war.

A vote on dissolving Israel government could come in next few days. New elections would come before Rosh Hashana (Sept 22).
