Amid ongoing protests in response to ICE raids and arrests in Los Angeles, 700 Marines in California have been ordered to assist, and they're expected to arrive over the next 24 hours, a U.S. official confirmed.
The Marines are from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California, whom U.S. Northern Command had said Sunday were on a "prepared to deploy status" if the Defense Department needed them.
Minutes before the Marines' deployment was confirmed, President Donald Trump was asked by ABC News if he planned on sending Marines to LA, and he said, "We'll see what happens."
"I mean, I think we have it very well under control," Trump said. "I think it would have been a very bad situation. It was heading in the wrong direction. It's now heading in the right direction." -ABC News' Luis Martinez and Karen Travers National Guard is armed but no bullets in chamber
The National Guardsmen on active duty in Los Angeles are carrying weapons but don't have rounds in the chamber, and they aren't using rubber bullets or pepper spray, according to a U.S. official.

Smh ...
Do you have any idea what 700 determined geound-pounder jarheads can do? Brother, you should pray they are NOT taken off the leash.
ground-pounder. Damn, fat thumb disease is really hitting me hard today.
No water in LA.
LOL...I didn’t even see that typo until you pointed it out. The mind fills in the blanks and typos perfectly well.
The articles have repeatedly said “rounds in the chamber” but nothing about rounds in the magazines.
“ They are not “CHAMBERED” and are not using rubber bullets.”
But they can have a magazine inserted into the weapon?
Hope you are correct...
About what I expected.
I have confidence in US Marines to follow the ROE and act with professionalism including if needed the use of deadly force.
Sorry you don’t have that level of confidence in the US military.
Is this why I have not seen it in the U.S. in years?
I really have no idea.
But it is a durn good question.
Unless told otherwise, absolutely.
It certainly happened in Beirut prior to the 1983 bombing; there had been too many accidental discharges, and the word came down that the weapons were to be unloaded.
The one Marine standing guard who did manage to get a few shots off at the speeding truck had to take the time to load the magazine into the rifle before he could fire.
“Unless told otherwise, absolutely.”
Thank you.
It takes a fraction of a second to chamber a round (at least it did with the M-16A1/2 I used back in the day).
