Trump and Musk Attack Each Other in Remarkable Break
New York Times ^ | 6/5/2025 | Tyler Pager and Theodore Schleifer

The open acrimony between the two men comes after the billionaire denounced President Trump’s signature domestic policy bill as an “abomination.”

President Trump and Elon Musk’s alliance dissolved into open acrimony on Thursday, as the two men hurled personal attacks at each other after the billionaire had unleashed broadsides against the president’s signature domestic policy bill.

While meeting with Friedrich Merz, Germany’s new chancellor, in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump broke days of uncharacteristic silence and unloaded on Mr. Musk, who until last week was a top presidential adviser.

“I’m very disappointed in Elon,” Mr. Trump said. “I’ve helped Elon a lot.”

As the president criticized Mr. Musk, the billionaire responded in real time on X, the social media platform he owns.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Mr. Musk wrote.

“Such ingratitude,” he added, taking credit for Mr. Trump’s election in a way that he never has before.

Musk acquired TDS. His beef is with Congress, yet he’s attacking Trump. He should have been working with Congress to put a bill together to make the DOGE cuts permanent.

It kinda creeped me out the way he was hanging around Trump, hundreds of WH events, so many offsite events, almost daily for a couple of months - something wrong.

Is this a faux fight to make it ok for liberals to buy Teslas again?

Nobody is going to buy a tesla w/o a HUGE tax credit.

This will certainly make the 95%ers feel Elon is breaking away from POTUS Trump.

The drama continues....

DOGE was a nice little effort, but it never amounted to more than a rounding error in the grand scheme of a $7.000.000.000.000 budget.

Exactly, I could have found 200 billion to cut.

This is a scene that has played out numerous times with Trump’s BFFs. It seems trump’s friendship never end well.

If Trump cuts off Musk, I’m fine with that. Among other things, while paying lip service to being against illegal immigration, Musk is in favor of greatly expanding legal immigration and the guest worker program. The people who elected Trump weren’t voting for more cheap Third World labor.

yep, I called it the moment Musk stepped on stage the first time with Trump. It was just a matter of time. But I am glad musk helped with the election and attempted to cut government spending.

Yes.
The spin in the NY Times article is testament to the left’s agenda.
Trump often said that Elon hadn’t asked for anything and that Elon knew Trump was backing off on the EV mandates. Elon had said, according to Trump, that EV would move more slowly but it was the future. Now Elon is facing the reality of being out of the loop instead of a central White House figure, losing the economic juice of the mandate and his friend, the democrat donor, is out of consideration for NASA. It is a big change and he seems to be lashing out in frustration. Hopefully short lived because he has been very generous with time, money & expertise in America’s interest.
What DOGE is doing is not just about $. It is about putting the Gv’t on a business basis so that it can balance budget & pass audits. Tightening the bookkeeping and cutting the fat & redundancy is a big step and long overdue.

Unbelievable that they couldn’t have this debate in private... Not a good look for either one of them going public on this.
