Cue the Ancient Aliens guy saying: I’m not saying it’s aliens but it’s aliens, only change it to, “I’m not saying it’s a dude, but it’s a DUDE!
A very small portion of the population is born with Swyers Syndrome.
There is a genetic abnormality in the SRY tip of the Y chromosome (SRY binds to other parts of the DNA, spurring the development of testes and a penis), leading to an incomplete male.
Individuals born with Swyers present as female at birth. They have a vagina but typically no uterus and may have undescended testes (present but not visible or external).
Even more rare are females with a malformed SRY gene on one X chromosome. They present as male but have XX chromosomes. This condition is different from Turners Syndrome, where a girl only has 1 X chromosome or an X/partial X chromosome and presents as female.
While the majority of the population is either XX or XY, there are people born X, XXY, XYY, etc.
