Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday praised the latest talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations that took place in his country earlier today.

"Russian and Ukrainian delegations met in Istanbul today. It was a magnificent meeting," Erdogan said following a cabinet session at the presidential complex in Ankara, stressing that "Istanbul was a turning point."

The leader underscored his aspirations to take the dialogue further. "My greatest wish for both sides is to bring [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky together in Istanbul or Ankara," he stated. "Even Trump joining would be ideal," he concluded.

It’s going to be an ugly resolution. One which should be done as quietly as possible.

Umerov and Medinsky met privately one on one for 2.5 hours prior to the full meeting.

Erdogan wants them fighting so that Turkey can eventually take over the region.

Two ultimatums that could not be farther apart were presented. The Ukes wanted to schedule a follow up meeting. The Russians told them to bugger off.

The Ukes have the unconditional terms. Nothing less will be accepted by Russia.

They only met for 1 hour. Doesn’t sound like a magnificent meeting.

Someone posted the full text of the Russian proposal in some thread.

There is a great deal more to it than territory.

The item I most recall was actually a concession. They will accept as part of the agreement a cancellation of any requirement In Either Direction for money to fund damage restoration. They had previously made clear Ukraine would have to pay damages. And I think it was the same paragraph that they mentioned gas transit fees, which had been the norm for decades, to permit Ukraine to collect some transit money for GAZPROM gas flowing to Europe — clearly intended to be a way to help Ukraine pay for repair of damages in Kiev and elsewhere.

Korea 1953, both sides bicker over the height of their table flags while fighting still raged.
