Rand Paul on CBS Face the Nation
X / CBS ^ | June 1 | CBS

@RandPaul

The American people, like the Great People of Kentucky, do not support Biden spending levels and $5T in new debt. Therefore, I will not. It’s simple.

** My Notes / paraphrasing for FR Only ***

Rand:

This (BBB) is a Military Industrial Complex bill... They love it as it's padding out defense spending by around 320 billion dollars in new money... (I can't vote for that)

On tariffs:

I spoke to the President about the tariffs this week. He did most of the talking and we dont agree.... I talk to people in Kentucky and none of them support the tariffs (businesses, farms, etc).

Opposition on BBB: Can you stop it? Do you have 3 GOPers?

There are 4 of us at the moment (against it)... I'm for the tax cuts... I want them permanent but I dont want to raise the debt ceiling by 5 trillion. I've told them to take the Debt ceiling off the table (and I'll vote even for a flawed bill)

The GOP will own this... We will if we vote for it... You heard of Biden-onomics, Biden inflation, well look at Republicans (in the House) they've all voted for the Biden spending levels!

Recission bill:

Yes. DOGE...I will vote for the cuts but it's very small part of the budget... I like and propose the Penny Plan budget cutting a small amount (percentage) each year...

The reason for raising the debt ceiling now is to take the contrived government shutdown "crisis" off the table as a Democrat opposition tool before the midterm election.

Otherwise, we will be right back here next year just before the midterms, giving the Democrats an unnecessary talking point to hammer the Republicans with.

"The only people who spoke to are the bourbon makers who don’t want their booze to get taxed in Europe."

Tariffs won't hide what won't sell. The niche bourbon market from Hillbillyia is insanely oversaturated, and consolidation is overdue.

"He’s running against Biden and spending it sounds like, or that’s how he’d portray it"

That's very astute, and why do you think that is? Because that grind works well in KY, where Biden was 70-30 hated, and that may have to be his fallback when he gets 2 or 3 primary challengers.

Rand was stung when he finished up the track in Iowa 2016 with Trump and Ted at the top. He thought he was the intellectual come to save the Tea Party, and Trump co-opted and consolidated the TP within 8 months 2015-2016.

That butthurt still resonates -- Rand is his father's son, and Ron was all about sustaining grievances.

You’re wrong Rand the people in Ky overwhelming support President Trump and that means we support him Fully including Tariffs. President Trump is a mastermind in the Art of The Deal ! You might say he wrote the book in it.
I am from Ky and I and many of my friends and fellow Kentucky Voters are starting to question some of the things you are doing.

After how he has behaved, bucking President Trump, I wouldn’t vote for him for POTUS 28’ if he was the last Republican standing!
