It wouldn't surprise me to learn that there is an added degree of difficulty to passing and that it's not just inherent to the subject matter.

If I understand you correctly, you are suspecting them of making the STEM courses more difficult because they don't like the STEM people. I would believe that, except for the fact that the STEM stuff is just plain old hard to begin with.
Plus, you can't fake it. There really is a true answer to the questions on the test. And they will be found out and agreed upon. So that part of STEM you CAN'T corrupt and make into Communism.
