Now we know Russia has an achievable war aim. Three years of war has shown that it is not achievable. Even if the Russians were able to take the entire country, something highly doubtful, that would not end the conflict. The Ukrainians have had the taste of freedom and will not accept Russian domination peacefully. Russia would only have won for themselves a protracted insurgency, not a united country.

Correct. Add to that, the average Ukrainians now hate Russia with a passion. They didn't deserve any of this.
