I am not a nuclear scientist, but it seems like the nuclear plants used on aircraft carriers would be a good way to augment electrical power for many small towns, especially those somewhat distant from other sources.

Each power plant on an aircraft carrier can produce 100 MW, enough energy for 10,000 homes.

It depends on the design of the reactor.
Military runs highly enriched uranium so the reactor can be much smaller.
USA reactors run 5% enriched so cheaper to fuel but they need to be bigger.
Canada runs on natural uranium w heavy water moderator and needs to be even bigger to offset Xenon buildup.
