Yeah, that caught my eye, too.
Technically, "defamation" always implies that it is unjustified - like calling him "slandered producer."
"Disgraced" and/or "infamous" would have been better choices, though I think that I would have simply settled on "convicted felon."

I still recall being able to read true journalism, and I’m not that old.
The bias just always jumps out and, frankly, prompts me to stop reading most of the time.
I cannot grasp how it doesn’t jump out for most people and have a similar effect.
