-snip-

“I think the president’s going to say to President Putin, ‘Look, are you serious? Are you real about this?’ Because the proposal from the United States has always been: Look, there are a lot of economic benefits to thawing relations between Russia and the rest of the world, but you’re not going to get those benefits if you keep on killing a lot of innocent people,” Vance said. “If you’re willing to stop the killing, the United States is willing to be a partner for peace.”

Walk away AND cutoff all military aid to Ukraine if your Zelensky and the EU refuse to make any deal necessary to end the war.

https://english.nv.ua/nation/majority-of-u-s-republicans-oppose-continued-ukraine-aid-wsj-poll-shows-50504126.html

Seventy-nine percent of Republican Party supporters in the United States oppose continuing aid to Ukraine in its defense against Russia, The Wall Street Journal reported on April 6, citing the results of its latest survey.

Russia is not going to give up the territory they won by force; Ukraine is not going to agree to it. Yet, they do not have the ability to re-take it. There is no avenue for peace until those fundamental positions change.

Ask your ESL teacher to read Vice President Vance’s statement to you in your native language since you obviously don’t understand what he said.

There may be little other logical choice.
It seems both Zelensky and Putin are tag teaming the president in their own way. Each taking turns being the ‘obstacle’ to a tidy resolution of the conflict, meaning perhaps neither takes a Cease Fire as a serious option right now.

Neither man has expressed any great concern about the ‘Canon Fodder’ aspect of sending in more and more legions of young men fated for short term destruction. Not going to effect their individual day or cozy night’s sleep.

I don’t understand why Trump is wasting his time on this....other than ego. He said he would end it. Just walk away and make it Europe’s problem...which is where it should have been to start with.

**********

Trump said Zelelsky didn’t have any cards left to play yet still keeps negotiating with him, even after Zelensky dissed the U.S. and backed out of deal — at the White House!

At this point it looks like Trump can’t let go of this. Everyone can see by now that Zelensky is unreliable, untrustworthy and nothing but trouble. And a waste of precious time.

Right, and meanwhile the futile peanut gallery tells both what to do.

Obviously, stopping the fighting is not on either sides agenda.

This is really unfortunate because it looks like the replacement rates for new recruits required to keep the war going are in the range of 35,000 new soldiers a months for each side for a total of around 70,000 people a month total for both sides to keep the war grinding out.

The casualty rates on both sides of this disaster are higher than anyone is letting on to.

Hopefully, what we are seeing is posturing and there is a breakthrough in negotiations but from the outside looking in. it looks like the Ukraine is not going to accept any Russian terms short of withdrawal from Ukraine and Russia is not inclined to agree to those terms.

From a practical standpoint, Russia is building up for a serious offensive and Zelensky is working with members of Congress to legislatively circumvent President Trump and suck the US deeper into the war.

At the end of the day, both sides are probably going to end up wishing that they put a lid on this thing when they had a chance.

Except , of course for the multitude of KIA who at that point will have died glorious patriotic deaths and will be beyond wishing.

Amen, brother!

Walk away from all them black holes and take care of our own. And, oh by the way, pay back that $37 trillion we owe them and live within our means so we don't bankrupt ourselves.

Vance said. “If you’re willing to stop the killing, the United States is willing to be a partner for peace.”

What Vance should have said.....

“If you’re willing to stop the killing, the United States is willing to stop attacking you via Ukriane, and agree to the requests you have made for over three years, now: a) stop NATO expansion into Ukraine, b) no enemy troops in Ukraine, c) you keep the territory you fought over and won. It's that easy. We hear you. When that's done, we can have a permanent peace -- which is much better than some 30-day cease-fire.”

A willingness to walk away is part of the art of the deal.

My father taught me this in the context of buying a used car.
