Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will not participate in the negotiations set to take place in Istanbul on May 15, APA reports citing Kommersant.ru.
This contradicts an earlier report by The Washington Post, which claimed Lavrov would attend the talks alongside President Vladimir Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov.
Meanwhile, U.S. President’s Special Representative Steve Witkoff is expected to travel to Istanbul on May 16, accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
President Donald Trump recently stated that Putin’s visit to Türkiye would depend on his own travel plans to the country.
It should be noted that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Putin has scheduled meetings on May 15, but avoided disclosing their location.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Your hero just posted this on X
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський
@ZelenskyyUa
Today we held several meetings with the team regarding the format in Türkiye. I am waiting to see who will come from Russia, and then I will decide which steps Ukraine should take. So far, the signals from them in the media are unconvincing.
Send Donald to embarrass Pooty Poot into attending.
Russian reports that Putin agreed to meet with President Trump in Turkey on Friday instead of Thursday so Putin wouldn’t be seen as accepting Zelensky’s Thursday call-out/ultimatum.
.
Ukraine-Russia direct negotiations will take place in Turkey tomorrow in preparation for Friday’s meeting.
An Azeri source? Thanks, I’ll wait for something more reliable.
Interesting development

A major incident today off the coast of Estonia in the Gulf of Finland, as the Estonian Navy attempted to detain the M/T JAGUAR, a crude oil tanker operated by the Russian shadow fleet and sailing under the flag of Gabon. With the Estonian Defense Force and Border Guard deploying an AgustaWestland AW139 Helicopter, M28 Skytruck Maritime Patrol Aircraft, and an EML Raju Patrol Boat to intercept and halt the ship, which refused to follow orders to halt or change course towards Estonia. The Russian Air Force eventually deployed a Su-35S to fly over the tanker in an attempt to “scare away” the Estonians, who in the process violated Estonia’s Airspace over the Gulf of Finland. The M/T JAGUAR appears to currently be anchored near the Island of Gogland in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
It's probable that we are either going to see an agreement to move forward on a peaceful resolution to the war or an understanding that there will be a military solution to the conflict.
If it's a military solution - all bets are off. No one predict with certainty which direction this thing will spin out too, but it is certain that a lot of people on all sides are going to die for no good purpose.
The Russians are not serious about peace.
This simply proves they are not about securing their borders. They crave the return of their empire. This will not end well for Russia.
Crush the price of oil.
Lock Russia out of the markets
And punish those doing business with them.
The rest of the world needs to make Russia suffer for their expansionist attitude.
The most likely outcome is a military solution. And that outcome has been obvious from the very beginning. The balance of power is on Russia’s side: superior industrial base, energy reserves, population, trained military personnel. The math is in Russia’s favor.
I hope some miracle can occur and a lasting peace can be achieved at the negotiation table and that there will be no more senseless loss of life and destruction, but it is what it is.
The last time a Ukrainian team leader tried to negotiate with his Russian counterparts, he got assassinated by the SBU when he returned home.
Just sayin’
Where you are getting Russian reports from, Marcus?
