Vladimir Putin will not show up for peace talks because his 25-year stranglehold on Russia ends if he yields, experts say.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has agreed to an offer of direct talks aimed at achieving peace, but Moscow said it would refuse to honour a ceasefire before and during any meeting.
The showdown was tentatively set for Istanbul with US President Donald Trump saying he would show up, but the meeting has yet to be confirmed.
The apparent foot-dragging by the Kremlin was seen as a deliberate ploy to continue a bloody war with its neighbour that has rumbled on for more than three years and left at least 250,000 dead.
Anton Gerashchenko, former deputy minister at the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs and a trusted lieutenant of Zelensky, said: “Why is Putin stalling for time, lying, and clinging to the war? His power relies on war.

Vlad the Invader ‘no shows’ because he hasn’t been forced to the table. I have been totally against the ‘coalition of the willing’ of European soldiers in Ukraine. Now, they should start to move in assets to protect non-combat areas while Ukrainians can be freed for a summer offensive. NATO should ship large amounts of aircraft so that Ukraine can enjoy air superiority -2000-3000K fighters over airspace. Simultaneously, artillery, Tanks, APC in huge volumes so Ukraine can achieve a break out for fast moving armor.
I have always favored and end to this stupid conflict, and peace. Vlad started it, now he wants to keep going. We now have uncovered his intentions, beyond what the propagandist have said, and he has said. Show him where it’s going to go now. He wants to bet everything on ‘imports’ from China, NC, and Iran to keep Russia in the game, let him bet that pair of 5’s. The production weight, equipment, and airpower of Europe and the United States might beat a pair of 5’s.
Vlad the Invader better start shinning his nuclear missiles and the world better shudder. Vlad isn’t going to have any Ukraine territory and going to lose Russian soil, IMHO. I don’t even like little ‘z’, but he played this one right by listening to Trump.

Initial negotiations are never between heads of state. Once negotiators have hammered out an agreement and ironed out the details, then the leaders may meet for a summit to seal the deal and pose for “historic moment” photos.
But ignoramuses don’t know that, I guess.
