The 2nd shot in the regimen...couldn't walk for a week.

Slightest torque upon movement, felt like my spine would snap in half. Like the top half of my body was setting on a chrome trailer hitch ball.

“My dad had it on his scalp and it was around his one eye.”

That’s exactly where I had it a little over 5 years ago. Also the side of my head swelled up very painfully. The scalp felt as if I had sunburn under my hair. I didn’t have any big issues with itching.

I wasn’t smart enough to even know what the hell this all was (though I had chickenpox as a child), went to a Med-express place where a nurse practitioner diagnosed it immediately and put me on Valtrex which began doing its job ASAP.

Only a few years later did I get the shingles vaccines (I’m no pro-vax Pollyanna and I wouldn’t touch a COVID jab or even a flu shot with a 10 foot pole). They always say the first shingles shot is no problem but the second one is a killer.

The second one didn’t do anything bad to me at all, except minor pain at the injection site for about 36 hours. Yet I have known people who describe the second shingles vax as if a ton of bricks had fallen on them.

Shingrix completely replaced the original vaccine [Zoster Vax?] at least ten years ago.

mRNA shingles vaccine?

I am hearing about that for the first time - in this post.

Shingles is horrible. My neighbor got it and was in excruciating pain for a year. Takes a long time to get over it.

I had shingles about two years ago.

It was a painful experience that lasted for several weeks.

I thought I had poison ivy at first. I usually wipe poison ivy off with a single swipe of an alcohol wetted facial tissue. That didn’t work. Normally for me, a flare up for about 12 hours is followed by near complete remission.

I got mine years ago, so I am pretty sure it was the live variety.

Re: "What's so bad about getting shingles?"

If you get shingles on your face, it can be very severe.

There is a unique pain response in the face that is claimed to be the most severe in the entire body.

People literally go for several weeks with ZERO sleep because the pain is so intense.

In addition, shingles around the eyes can cause permanent vision damage, and even blindness.

Shingles can also result in permanent scar tissue.

I’m never getting a note of vaccination as long as I live.

Same with my uncle. The ones on his head lasted a very long time.

I do not know what shot I received. The only side effect was that I could tell where I received the shot for months after because the area was tender.

It’s your body to gamble with. Shingles can be bad, though.

Brought to you by Pfizer.
I keep hearing an ad for Walgren,” Get the pneumococcal vaccine Gen X, it’s our shat.”

“My doc really wanted me to take the 2 shots. Good idea?”

multiple docs i asked about this ... and they all swore that the vaccine provided better immunity than a natural infection and swore i needed to take it even though i had already had the shingles ... i didn’t believe them because i still seriously doubt that natural infection is inferior to vaccination ... nonetheless, this was pre-covid and i wasn’t as skeptical as i am now, so took the first dose, which made me VERY ill, so did NOT take the 2nd dose ...

“What’s so bad about getting shingles?”

in most cases it’s not a big deal IF treated early, that is, pretty much in the first 24-48 hours start taking famciclovir OR valacyclovir ...

however, if near the eyes or is more systemic than just a single area, it CAN be a big deal, plus sometimes the pain lasts much longer than a couple of weeks for some people, and some people are prone to repeated attacks ...

I don’t think I can bring myself to take ANY injection from Big Pharma.
Not after the recent revelations.

I had shingles on my face and scalp as well. It was on my nose, and my right eye and my scalp and my forehead. I have a scar on my nose, scars on my eyebrows and forehead. Had to go to eye doctor who said shingles could blind you if it’s in your eye. Since that time, I have had retinal surgery on that same eye. I have no idea if shingles was the cause of partial blindness in that eye, but that side of my upper face and eye has been greatly affected.
I was also told that if shingles comes back, that it will come back to the same place it happened before.

Vaccines can trigger autoimmune disease to relapse. But so can the viruses the vaccines are designed to fight. You just have to weigh the threat of the disease vs the risk of relapse. Since you once had chicken pox the shingles virus is lying dormant in your nerve tissue.
