: after 35+ years of failed modernization attempts, OPM has announced that, as of June 2, they are replacing their 65+ year old paper process with an all digital alternative. This will reduce the average time people wait to receive their retirement check from 3-5 months to less than 1 month.

OPM - Office of Personnel Management (like an HR department). I think this is the office that located retirement records down a mineshaft, and employees would show up to work in a mine. No, I’m not kidding. So it originally took months to retire, based in part on the speed of the mine shaft elevator.

“OPM.gov provides policy, insurance, retirement, and agency services for federal employees, retirees, and job seekers.”

Just like with the IRS, there is hearing after hearing talking about systems needing to be updated. Budgets are increased but nothing is done. All the money is wasted/stolen with no progress made Trump brings in a private business group and an update is done in less than 100 days.

When I retired, I received my last paycheck on the first of the month. The first of the following month, my retirement check was issued on time. I didn’t have to wait months for paperwork to be hand-walked from department to department and then to a cave beneath a mountain. It shouldn’t be that complicated. It’s not as if it doesn’t happen every day in businesses and institutions across the world.

Hooked directly to Musk’s private corporate system.

My FIL was a civilian contractor (engineer) with DOD/NASA and he was paid through OPM.

Being an engineer, of course he saved every printout, review and receipt from OPM for nearly 30+ years. I just finished finally going through it all, and digitizing and shredding it. I didn’t have the heart to get rid of it completely!

LOL! Linked directly to Xi’s corporate network! OPM has the dubious honor of being one of the largest data breaches in US Govt history. I forget the number of persons compromised so I looked it up - in 2014-2015, two separate incidents - over 22 million government employees, contractors, job applicants and others had all personally identifiable information (PII) vacuumed up by the Chinese.

And you’re worried about Musk? I think any system upgrade at OPM is probably a good thing.

Is there an idea for a Hollywood movie or video short in this?

Had to look closely to see this is Joe Jr. I know the dad. Who is also a sharp guy, Joe Sr. used to be a councilman in a city near where I used to live. He was some of the early money into AirB&B.

What did you use to digitize it, and was OCR involved?

I have an old Win8 laptop I keep around because it has an older non-subscription version of full Adobe on it (*not* Adobe Reader). I use it to digitize documents, the OCR works fairly well. But I really need a modern solution. Preferably under OSX.

I probably shouldn’t have said digitized. I just scanned everything and saved as a pdf. It took weeks, and when I was finished I had 16 GB!

“You are on the wrong site. You should be over at the Blow Sky site for libtards.”

Now there is a new brilliant zinger I have not heard before because I do not blindly follow the herd...

Yeah, how dare I have an independent mind and not follow the cult lockstep by questioning the God Musk. His end goals are NOT what he says they are and he CANNOT be trusted. He is going to throw Trump and all of us under the Bus just as soon as he can per his agenda.

This elevating Musk to unquestioned God status is getting irrational and illogical. Musk is only out for Musk period. Always was and always will be...
