Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping called President Donald Trump's plan for a "Golden Dome" air defense system "deeply destabilizing," after in-person talks between the two leaders.

Trump's vision for the Golden Dome is that the military will create a multi-layered defense shield that would be able to protect the continental United States to deter and even intercept any aerial attack against the homeland.

"The recently announced large-scale program 'Golden (Iron) Dome for America' is also deeply destabilizing in nature," a joint statement from Xi and Putin said.

Our dems also stated that they thought it was destabilizing back in the day. They don’t like schools having teachers with guns either. There is a common thread there.

So was Star Wars. Just ask the left.

Don’t forget Pershing misses. You can ask the krauts.

Russia was hysterically terrified of President Reagan’s SDI. I remember well.

So, defending our country is bad, wasting billions on other countries (like Ukraine) is good. Ok.

Yet I love the Golden Dome concept. The sooner the better.

‘deeply destabilizing’ ... why?

If one is an adult and an adversary is close to invincible, you simply adjust your actions so as to not pi$$ that adversary off, at least not too often. The choice is between having a good friend or a seriously bad enemy.

What Xi and Putin really do not like, is that enough of the war infrastructure will survive a missile/drone strike to make a completely definitive second strike from the US.

If you try to take a shot at the king, don’t miss. There are no second chances to make a first impression.

Yes, but how well could it work? Both Arrow and HIMARS missiles (via the Iron Dome) failed to stop an Iranian ballistic missile from Yemen that hit Ben Gurion airport.

That is one out of many.
As I understand the Israeli defense system is 90% effective.
That’s a level of protection well above what we have now.

How dare we put a system in place that increases our defensive response posture...

Suck it West Taiwan... You and Vlad can just calm down.

AGI changes the strategic imperative for China and Russia in respect to missile defense. Of course AGI changes everything, for the worse,(in ways the will seem wonderful at first) but before we get to AGI, national security experts will (are already) have to consider the implications of something called "AGI supremacy." If you haven't' thought about it yourself, it might seem unimportant to you at first, but it is of life or death importance from a national security point of view.

Simply stated, AGI supremacy is equivalent to being the first and only nation to have nuclear weapons, but in the case of AGI supremacy, it is literally orders of magnitude more important because it is much more powerful technology. Counter-intuitively perhaps, one thing affects another. An impenetrable missile defense means our opponents will have to strike sooner to prevent AGI supremacy than they would otherwise have to.

AGI supremacy would give us, in very short time, a 10 to 20 year and ever accelerating military and technological superiority over everyone else. The military advantage would be similar to the British advantage in India or Africa in the 19th century, but greater for us now. China and Russia cannot afford to allow us to have such a large military advantage over them. We cannot allow them to achieve AGI superiority over us. It is a life or death thing, of much greater importance than our reasons for fighting World Wars One and Two.

We will certainly preemptively strike their AGI infrastructure if we have to. SO WILL THEY. The "Golden Dome" will force their hand sooner in this. The only way out for us at this point is to cooperate with each other on AGI non-proliferation. Some technologies are too powerful and dangerous for us to develop at this point in our history as a species.

It wasn’t that long ago that Xi was bragging how we had no defense against his hypersonic nukes. But of course, that sort of imbalance is not destabilizing because they had the advantage.

An additional benefit are new technologies that will arise from the R & D needed to create such a system. For example it is not a coincidence computer technology increased leaps and bounds following our Moon trip and the investment in “Star Wars” technology. Ditto GPS, etc. etc.
