Alcatraz, the once-infamous maximum-security prison located on a remote island in the San Francisco Bay, has been closed for over 60 years. Now, President Trump has announced plans to bring it back. Trump said the move would restore Alcatraz as a powerful symbol of law, order, and justice.

I would recommend one of the Aleutian Islands. In fact, many prison sentences could be swapped out by a drop-off somewhere along the Aleutian Island chain with instructions to walk/swim home.
I thought of that too, but Dawson really nailed that role so well, theres no one who could do it better.
Less prisons, more chain gangs. Make those turds work. And lots and lots of failures to communicate and nights in the box.
Maybe it would be symbolically useful, but let’s be practical....
With a maximum capacity of 336 prisoners, it wouldn’t even be enough to hold the people currently employed in the U.S. Capitol building that deserve to be there.
I get the symbolism. But most folks alive today dont really asociate alcatraz with anything because its been abandoned and dormant most or all of their lives, and they dont even know about the birdman of alcatraz nd dont care about any symbolism. Many of us here know this stuff simply because we’re older.

San Francisco is already an open-air prison / psych ward / homeless shelter. They don’t need to reopen Alcatraz.

Trump started building skyscrapers in NYC when he was 25, knows just about all there is to. know about building. And yes, remodel would be pricey.
My concern is the number of prisoners held there. I’ve read it was something like 300. Aren’t there far more “worst of the worst” criminals running around the streets?
I’d love for Alcatraz to be reopened, if only to see Bay Area heada explode, but it will never happen. It’s too expensive and not practical to ship all food, water, supplies, and people in and out. I never got the attraction for the tourism. It was only a prison for less than 30 years. People act like it’s the Roman Coliseum.
I prefer flying them down to El Salvador.
I just think that this ‘landing the plane’ stuff is a bit of a waste of time and money.
Dept of Prisons no longer has control of Alcatraz...It’s governed by National Parks...
Yes, tear it down to the foundation ... and build a big, beautiful 400 floor maximum security prison, Trump Tower.
Like the Tower of London, with a Courtyard for executions,
something that could house thousands of capital crime losers waiting to be geeted.
It’s going to take a whole bunch of money. The place is literally falling down.
Why should El Salvador have all the fun? Outsource it to the Norks as well. Rocket Man could use the hard currency and Lord knows, they have the prison expertise on a country-wide scale. “Walls? we don’t need no steenkin walls!”
