Yup. Trump knows a lot about building restorations. All the fundamentals are already there. In the case of a prison, sandblast, new plumbing, and paint.

Red meat to his base that distracts from his not actually getting to mass deportations.

Instead of sinking our Decommissioned warships for artificial reefs. Let’s take the engines apart then tow them out to sea say 100 Miles offshore, anchor them and fill with the worst of the worst. Drop food by helicopter once a month and let then figure it out. No guards, just warning signs not to approach for boaters.
If an aircraft carrier is good enough for 4,000 US Navy sailors then it’s to good for these animals.

The costs to build in California generally are way to high, let alone a remote building site only accessible by water. Tear the place down and lease the land to a high end developer who could make money from creating housing and resort facilities. The government could make enough to build a remote prison much more economical somewhere else. Win win.

That’s true. Also, I don’t think it is habitable at this point.

“No reparations to anyone. We must operate as one country where all citizens are equal.”

Yessir! You are correct. Returning the island to the natives is a ridiculous idea. My post was a vague attempt to show that it’s really not possible to declare who/what is “

Also, if we returned Alcatraz to natives, then we should return every state and location to the natives. Result: No USA.

It’s a dumb idea. Build more supermax prisons instead

I meant to finish the sentence. (novel idea):

it’s really not possible to declare who/what is “native”.

Just like the Camp Ottawa prison farm. They promised jobs that lasted the few years Camp Ottawa stayed open. The only thing it really provided was the families of the prisoners who moved nearby so they could visit more often. Some of the families stayed after the prison farm shut down because they could not afford to move back where they came from.

No Stephen way Trump is trolling… logistically. Alcatraz woukd an error. It was then that will be even more so now, the supermax concept seems efficient. A streamlined death penalty for non questionable murder convictions would help.

It was closed because the building was flaking apart, at it was too expensive to supply and maintain.

Pure troll.... and even our peeps are falling for it.

If stroud was one of the nicer prisoners, what were the more meaner prisoners like? Because stroud was a cold blooded psychopath. He was a troublemaker to the guards and his fellow prisoners. Loved to instigate fights and such.

Though he did do one heroic thing during the battle of Alcatraz. When guards were firing into his block, he braved the bullets, climbed down from his cell on the third tier, down to floor level where the isolation cells were and shut the iron doors in order to protect the prisoners, ones who had nothing to do with the battle, from getting shot

Probably not a practical idea. Even if Alcatraz was reopened as a prison there would be constant media attention and protests in SF over it. The U.S. does have possession of small, miscellaneous islands in the Pacific and up near Alaska that could be used.

"Worked for the Brits"

Yep. They sent thousands of people to Australia's penal colony, and to the colonies in America as punishment. Several years ago, I watched a couple of episodes of Australia's Who Do You Think You Are, and many of the well-known Australian figures they did family history on, their ancestors had been sent from England to Australia for penal servitude. I'd bet that most of the people who were born in Australia, have similar ancestry too.
