Who are the Liberal Democrats?
The traditional „classic liberal“ party in Britain, nowadays much smaller than they once were.
Formerly, it was they who were called the Whigs, but their apogee was in the mid 18th century. In the late 18th century, their influence on British politics was waning, but by 1830, Prime Minister Earl Grey was a Whig, once again.
John Locke and John Milton were their most important thinkers. Their influence in the Thirteen Colonies was very large, especially among the Founding Fathers, and played a significant role in the decision to declare independence from Britain.
