Yeah that was the surrender “signing day” (9/2)...some websites have it as 9/4 (incorrect), but the more popular day in Rhode Island is “the 2nd Monday in August” (RI “Victory Day”):

I thought August 15th was VP day. September 2nd is when it was signed on the Big MOI.
