This is all prophetic. As Katherine Kuhlman used to say, "The Bible is more up to date than tomorrow morning's newspaper".
Soon, I believe before the end of this century, after Jesus "catches up" the Church ("ketchup" 
) into heaven, the world will plunge into seven years of darkness and death - Daniel's 70th week. The prevailing political factor in that terrifying time will be what is now called "Worldwide Islamic Supremacy" in which the last 3.5 years will be headed up by what they call the 12th Imam, what the Bible calls the "beast".
However, between then and now, a lot will happen and many souls will be saved before that horrific day (Luke 14:23) and I believe America will be an important part of it.
Light for us now, darkness for the world later.
