The stupid is going to hurt a lot more. High energy prices are de-industrializing Germany. And they are trying to take agricultural land out of production in Western Europe and UK.

The Stupid —> No food, no jobs, no electricity. Enjoy the suck Euroweenies!

‘Portugal’s grid operator REN said “extreme temperature variations” in Spain had produced unexpected fluctuations across high voltage lines. That had caused parts of the grid to fall out of sync, “leading to successive disturbances across the interconnected European network.” ‘

It sounds like they fell short in their generating capacity because demand outstripped supply due to the heat and the circuit breakers kicked in and caused a blackout.

Based on this webpage, Spain’s renewable electrical generating capacity is 56% as of 2024. The rule of thumb is it shouldn’t exceed more than 15%.

Since 56% of their electrical generating capacity is renewables, I would say there is a very good possibility of that.

Extreme temperature variations? Have they never happened before and if so why didn’t they cause the grid to go down before if they did. I guess blaming it on globull warming is more palatable then ‘Someone F’kd up’.

Great article & link posted by RummyFan, comment #40. Inside the article is an 11 second video of people outside a stranded electric train. Just as the video ends, you can see humans staring through a fence at a white SUV. Perhaps I should say “staring with envy” at the white SUV.
