I always post with a specific width in pixels, not a percent which can vary the output wildly depending on the resolution of the original image. So If I post the image as follows with the width in pixels stated explicitly:

The image looks like this:

It is my experience that you don't want to go much more than 500-600 pixels wide, as that will cause most people's browsers to require scrolling sideways or increasing the window to see it, depending on their screen resolution.
