President Donald Trump said Saturday that he doubts Russia’s Vladimir Putin wants to end his war in Ukraine, expressing new skepticism that a peace deal can be reached soon. Only a day earlier, Trump had said Ukraine and Russia were “ very close to a deal.”
“There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days,” Trump said in a social media post as he flew back to the United States after attending Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican, where he met briefly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump also hinted at further sanctions against Russia.
“It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions?” Too many people are dying!!!” Trump wrote.
The new doubts aired by Trump come as the president and top aides intensify their push to come to a deal to end the war that began in February 2022 when Russian invaded Ukraine.
The comments also sharply contrasted with Trump’s positive assessment that the two sides were “very close to a deal” after his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, had met with Putin in Moscow on Friday.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I’ve been against this Ukraine fiasco since Joe Pedo came up with the idea but now I’ve reached the point where I believe Trump needs give Z whatever he needs to make the Russkis extinct.
IOW: Civilize the Russkis with bombs.
Ukraine’s piano puppet shot off his mouth in the Wall Street Journal.
LOL
Trump needs to stop all this verbal speculation with this Ukrain fiasco, especially when you’re dealing with two crazies on opposite sides. We have to face the reality that these two don’t give a crap about the USA. When we have NO LEVERAGE with these two, we CANT force a “deal”. Trump just needs to completely take the US out of this mess. After all, Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union (Russia essentially) for 70yrs and it didn’t affect US national security one diddly squat.
“The scale and grandeur of the Russian effort make it the greatest achievement in all history.”
That is a direct quote from who?
Just another Trump 5D chess move to hurry things along.
If we can't get our money back, it's time to pull out and end all involvement in this war.
“Joe Pedo came up with the idea” ?????
Must have. He financed it.
Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia does not want peace. Yet it is the Ukraine who are deemed to be warmongers, because they won’t surrender their country to the nice Russian immigrants and their friendly Kalashnikovs.
53% want U.S. to help Ukraine reclaim territory, even if it prolongs conflict
63% of Americans think neither side is winning the war
More concern that Russia than Ukraine would violate peace deal, 79% vs. 26%

If that’s the case, so did Trump in his first term. Your silly argument is that the U.S. supporting Ukraine against Russia’s invasion makes the U.S. responsible for the war. That’s just nuts.
After all, Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union (Russia essentially) for 70yrs and it didn’t affect US national security one diddly squat.
The Cold War was neither necessary or unnecessary. It was a defacto post WWII reality when the Soviet Union decided under Stalin and his heirs, to control by ideology and force Eastern European countries, and also attempt to destabilize other countries worlwide to the detriment of US national security interests. Ukraine (and its territory) did nothing to add or subtract from our national security concerns during those 70 years. The point being, that if Ukraine were to have a fully compliant government today to the Russians, it will make no difference to the US national security interests.
Eisenhower said, if Zhukov led the Soviet Union after WWII, there would have been no Cold War. Both men deeply respected each other.

47 needs to arm Ukraine to the teeth and give them free reign, if he wants peace.
