Rainbow Family is an outgrowth of the Living Theatre, linked to the Diggers (1960s San Francisco anarchist group known for street theater, predecessor of the Yippies) and Situationists (Marxist avant-garde revolutionary group involved in the 1968 Paris uprisings).
Could be summed up as sort of an anarchist New Age group.
